Abstract:

This dataset quantities dissolved nutrients in water surface runoff from natural rainfall events at experimental hydrology plots on the New Mexico State University Ranch and USDA Jornada Experimental Range.     Material moved from the overland flow of water resulting from precipitation is collected in
    belowground containers to get an estimate of that material entering and exiting the plots.
    Water and material collected in a container solely from a rain or wind event is not collected.
    Bedload oven-dry weight is obtained and the percent Loss on Ignition is calculated.

Abstract:

OVERVIEW This is the Jornada Long Term Ecological Research site data base for the 2 x 2 meter natural rainfall-runoff plots. There are 4074 plot-events or observations in the data set. Of those 4074 observations, 2745 contained precipitation values greater than zero or contained precipitation values greater than runoff values. Very few observations showed runoff values greater than precipitation. All values are included here for completeness of the data set. These data were collected and analyzed in the laboratory under the supervision of John Anderson (primarily). Dr. Susan M. Bolton and Dr. Tim J. Ward compiled and checked the data. Tim J. Ward is responsible for the final input, checking and presentation of the data set presented below. Questions about the data should be directed to Tim J. Ward through the Jornada LTER.

Abstract:

This data set was collected to provide data for comparison of the losses of dissolved nitrogen and phosphorus in the runoff from grass- and shrub- dominated plots in the Jornada Basin of southern New Mexico. This dataset contains the following columns: Plot: the identification number for the plots, which are grouped for grass, shrub or intershrub areas. Fill Time: the time in seconds used to collect an individual sample of discharge from the plot. Time: the time in minutes (from the beginning of the rainfall simulation) at which each individual collection of discharge began. In each case, the first time listed is the time at which discharge was first observed. Time b/w samples: the time in seconds between the beginning the collection of a given sample of discharge and the beginning of the next collection. Q: the rate of discharge during each collection, in cubic centimeters per second. AveQ/time: the total discharge during an interval in cubic centimeters. For example, the discharge between 16 and 20 minutes is calculated as the mean of the discharge at l6 and 20 minutes multiplied by 4 minutes.
