Abstract

The study reported herein was conducted to evaluate the effect of different degrees of grazing intensity on biomass production, rate of regrowth, vegetative reproduction, and vigor of vine mesquite grass (Panicum obtusum H.B.K.). The research took place during two grazing seasons (June 20, 1975 to October 11, 1975 and June 16, 1976 to August 30, 1976) on a playa lake which had not been grazed since 1971 on the New Mexico State University College Ranch. The study showed greater (P<.05 live-herbage="" biomass="" standing="" dead="" and="" litter="" stolon="" production="" mean="" plant="" heights="" in="" the="" control="" pasture="" than="" moderate="" or="" heavy="" grazing="" treatments="" during="" both="" seasons....="" study="" also="" showed="" significant="" differences="" between="" sampling="" dates="" within="" treatment="" seasons.="">
